The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is the EU’s strategy for enhancing cooperation with its eastern and southern neighbouring countries on a wide policy spectrum. It aims to share with its neighbours the benefits of the recent EU enlargement, improving political, economic and cultural relationships in addition to spreading the EU’s fundamental values such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, market economy and good governance. Although Russia is also a neighbour of the EU it is not part of the European Neighbourhood Policy. Alongside the ENP project, EU cooperation with Russia has been developed in the shape of a Strategic Partnership which contains four “common spaces”. These spaces are based on Russia’s and the EU’s joint interests and values and address Economic issues; Freedom, Security and Justice; External Security and Research and Education.
The EU has an interest in informing citizens in its neighbouring countries about how it is working to bring greater economic development, stability and better governance to them. The new information project “Window to Europe” has been created to present you life in Europe and to inform you about the European Neighbourhood Policy and Strategic Partnership, the EU’s main tool for establishing fruitful partnerships with its neighbours.
