Repsol has taken the Final Investment Decision for its Ecoplanta project in El Morell, Spain. Using Enerkem’s gasification technology, the facility will convert around 400,000 tonnes of non-recyclable municipal waste annually into 240,000 tonnes of sustainable methanol.
The methanol can be used as feedstock for circular chemicals and advanced biofuels, contributing to the decarbonization of the chemical and transport sectors. Start-up is scheduled for 2029.
